HO HO HO CHRISTMAS WREATH TUTORIAL

STEP 1: CREATE YOUR WORK WREATH FORM

We are attaching our deco mesh to a 14″ wreath form with 24 chenille stems, here on in referred to as ties. We are using the single layer cruffle method for this wreath base so we will need 24 ties (4 in each section). If you don’t have a wreath form that comes with ties, you can use a regular 12-14” wreath form and add chenille stems to make the twist ties.

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR WREATH BASE

After you create your wreath base you will want to add a zip tie to the back for hanging.

STEP 3: ADD THE RIBBON

In this tutorial I am adding two 2.5″ ribbons. I am choosing to overlap them because I like the way it looks. You can also place one ribbon in each ruffle instead of overlapping them. What you choose to do is completely up to you and is just a matter of preference.

First, I take all my ribbon and cut it into 13″ pieces. Then cut the ends of the ribbon into a dovetail by folding the ends in half and cutting at a diagonal. I typically start cutting from about an inch from the end. Starting from the fold cut the diagonal down to the edges of the ribbon.

I am placing the ribbons together on every other tie. For this wreath, I chose to put the ribbons on top of the red ruffles. After placing the ribbons down twist your tie to hold it going about an inch up. Then cut the remainder with your wire cutters. You can use scissors to cut it if you don’t have wire cutters. Tuck the stem down so it is not visible. Continue this going all around the wreath on every other ruffle.

Don’t worry about spreading your ribbon out nicely until the end because as you work on your wreath the ribbon will get messed up.

STEP 4: ADD THE DECO MESH TUBING

I like to add deco mesh tubing to my wreath to give it a real festive look. I will get 1-3 different colors and create loops. Leave about a 6-inch tail, then make your loops in a figure 8 form making each loop about 4-5 inches depending on how much you want it to stick out from each section. Then leave another tail on the other side before cutting. Some people prefer not to leave a long tail, but I like the way the tail looks. Then you will be adding the tubing to every other ruffle opposite the ribbon. For this wreath we are putting it on the green ruffles. Use the tie to secure it down and twist to about an inch up. Cut the remainder and tuck the stem down. Do this all around the wreath on each green ruffle. After you are done, you can now make sure your ribbon is spread out nicely by making sure your ribbon is making an X on each ruffle. It is easier to do this while your wreath is hanging.

STEP 5: ADD YOUR BOW

For this wreath I made a bow with both ribbons using my Bowdabra Bowmaker. You can use any bowmaker you may have using the same instructions.

STEP 6: ADD YOUR ACCENT SIGN

Once you have added your zip tie adhesive mounts you are ready to attach your sign. You can place your sign anywhere on your wreath that you prefer but for this example we are attaching it to the right side. Find the right spot that you would like then use the ties to attach it directly to the wreath form. Attach all 4 ties so your sign stays nicely and evenly. You may have to make adjustments on any side until it sits well.

After you are done, you will need to clean up the back by twisting and cutting all the ties down to about 1-2″ and tucking the stems down. I try to wrap the ties around the wire so it stays secure.
