ADDING TWO DIFFERENT RIBBONS TO YOUR WREATH

MATERIALS:

-A completed wreath base

-Any two ribbons in 1.5″ or 2.5″ or a combination of the two

STEP 1: MEASURE AND CUT YOUR RIBBON

You will begin by measuring out your ribbon. For this example I used 13″ pieces. Typically I use ribbon from 12″-14″ pieces depending on the style I want. I use 12″ for smaller size wreaths. I use 13″ when I want the ribbon to stand out but I don’t want it to be the main focus on the wreath and I am adding other accents. I use 14″ pieces when I want the ribbon full all around the wreath and I am not adding a lot of accents.

Once I measure the 13″ I fold it at the 13″ mark. I wrap my ribbon around making six uncut pieces at 13″. This just saves a little time from cutting each piece individually but is not necessary. After I fold the sixth piece I cut the end. Then, pull your scissors through the center and cut one end of your group of ribbon pieces. Turn your ribbon around and do the same thing on the other end. You will end up with 6 pieces of equal length ribbon. Do this three times since you want 18 pieces total of 13″ ribbon for this wreath example. Amount will vary depending on which style wreath base you choose.

Measure your ribbon. For this example we are using 13″ pieces.

Fold your ribbon at the 13″ mark and wrap around until you create 6 13″ pieces.

After you fold 6 pieces cut your end.

Pull your scissors through the center to cut your ribbon.

Cut your second ribbon in the same manner. After all your pieces have been cut, you will create your dovetails. I usually grab two or three ribbons at the same time to cut depending on the thickness of the ribbon. Again, this is not necessary but it will save you time.

Fold your ribbon in half then cut at a diagonal, as shown in the picture, to create your dovetail. Do this for both sets of ribbon before your next step.

After you have cut the dovetail on both sets of ribbon, you will lay them in an X position with the thinner one on top or, if they are the same size, it is completely up to you which order they go in. Just be sure to use the same pattern all around your wreath. Pinch the two ribbons in the center and place onto your wreath. The pattern you choose is completely up to you. You can place ribbon onto each deco mesh piece or every other piece depending how full of ribbon you want your wreath to be and on the style of base you are using.

You will place your ribbon directly onto the deco mesh piece using the chenille stem to secure them onto your wreath.

Make an X with your ribbon.

Pinch in the center.

Place onto the deco mesh pieces using the chenille stem to tie them.

If you will be adding other accents such as tubing, leave your chenille stem until you are done. If you will not be adding anything else, twist your chenille stem to secure your ribbon going up until you have about a 1″ stem. Then cut your stem with wire cutters. Tuck your stem down so it is no longer visible.
