DOUBLE RIBBON BOW USING THE EZ BOWMAKER

MATERIALS:

-2 10 YD Rolls of Ribbon Any Size ( For this example we used 1 roll of 1.5″ ribbon and 1 roll of 2.5″ ribbon)

–Scissors

-EZ Bowmaker

-1 Chenille Stem/Pipe Cleaner

–Self Healing Cutting Mat or Ruler (to measure out your ribbon)

STEP 1: CREATE YOUR TAIL

There are many ways you can make a bow using the EZ Bowmaker. I will be showing you one of the methods I prefer in wreath making that makes the bow really stand out.

It is best to use a self healing mat when making these bows. It has measurements on it which will allow you to keep your loops and tails even on both sides. The EZ Bow Maker has measurements on it that can be hard to see after you start placing your ribbon down. You can use measuring tape or a ruler if you do not own a self healing mat.

The first thing you do is create your tail. For this example I am using one 2.5 ribbon and one 1.5 ribbon. I am creating a 20″ tail. After you cut your tails you will be pushing them down on to the EZ Bowmaker face side up. Use both ribbons to create your tail placing the 2.5″ ribbon down first.

Measure your tail out at 20″

Place both your tails face up on the EZ Bow Maker.

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR LOOPS

I start my loops by leaving a tail about 1″ shorter than the original tails. Start with your 2.5″ ribbon and place it down face up. Once you push that down you will twist the ribbon in the center to make it face down on the opposite side. This will allow you to create your first loop. Make the loop about 7″ long. When you come back to the middle, you will twist the ribbon again to leave the ribbon face down on the opposite side to create your second loop which will also be 7″ long. After you make your loop on the other side you will continue this method until you have three equal size loops on each side. Then leave a tail making it about an inch shorter than your original tail once again.

Leave a tail about 1″ shorter than original tail.

Twist ribbon in the center to leave your ribbon face down on one side.

Bring your ribbon around to create your first loop Making it 7″ long.

Twist your ribbon in the center again to create your loop on the opposite side.

Bring your ribbon over and create your loop of 7″ again.

Continue this method leaving three equal size loops of 7″ long.

After you make your 3 loops, leave a tail again making it 1″ shorter than the original tail.

Take your 1.5″ ribbon and repeat the same process as the 2.5″ ribbon.

Create your tail first.

Start making your 3 loops on each side.

Leave a tail after your last loops.

For the next steps you will make each loop about 1″ smaller than the previous one. Take your 2.5″ ribbon and start with a tail again about 6″ long, twist and make your first loop about 5″ long. You will repeat the same process as the last step but this time you will be making 2 loops of the same ribbon on each side, each 1″ smaller than the previous one. This will have you twisting and looping a total of 4 times before leaving a tail. Repeat this same process with your 1.5″ ribbon and since you are making your loops 1″ smaller each time your last loop should be 2″ long. The loops with the 1.5″ ribbon will start at 3″ long.

Starting with the 2.5″ ribbon, leave your tail about 6″ long then make your loop 5″ followed by a second loop at 4″ long. Finish with a 6″ tail again.

Starting with a tail about 5″ long, take your 1.5″ ribbon and again make them 1″ smaller than the previous loop. Therefore, they will be 3″ and 2″ long. Finish with a 4″ tail.

Once you finish these last steps your bow is ready to be pulled up off the EZ Bow Maker and tied with the chenille stem/pipe cleaner. I place the chenille stem across the center of the bow from the top as I gently pull the bow off the EZ Bowmaker. Try not to squeeze the bow to hard with your fingers or it will fall apart. Wrap the chenille stem around the bow carefully and twist it in the back a few times until it tightens to secure it.

Lay your chenille stem across the bow to begin wrapping it.

Gently pull the bow off the EZ Bow Maker and tie in the back with the chenille stem.

After twisting once you can put pressure and twist a couple more times to secure the bow.

STEP 3: FLUFF AND SHAPE YOUR BOW

Set your bow down and fluff out your loops. Spread your loops by alternating one up, one down and one stays center. Do this to all your loops to create your finished product. Then cut the ends of your tails into a dovetail. You may adjust the sizes of your tails to create the look you want.
