STEP 1: MAKE YOUR WORK WREATH FORM

For this example I used an 18″ wreath form but I typically use a 14″. The biggest difference is that there are 9 sections in an 18″ wreath form compared to 6 in the 14″ one. This will determine how many chenille stems/pipe cleaners you use. I will provide a few pictures in this tutorial on how to make your own work wreath form but for a more detailed explanation visit our tutorial titled DIY Work Wreath Form: Poof Method. You will be placing your ties in each section by placing 2 on each end on the top and bottom and one in the center of the top row only as shown in the pictures.

Place 1 tie on the inner ring end section.

Place your second tie on the third ring end section.

Twist the ties about 2 times to hold it down securely.

Your third tie will be in the center of the third ring.

This is what each section should look like after you place all your ties.

Continue in this manner until you have gone all the way around your wreath form.

STEP 2: ARRANGE AND ATTACH YOUR DECO MESH (INNER RING)

You will be using three different colors of 10″ deco mesh for this wreath. It is easiest to overlap your mesh while you attach it to each section and then separate and spread it out at the end.

First you will gather the ends so that you can attach it to your wreath form with a zip tie.

I typically attach it right before the edge of the section so that you can tie the first chenille stem after the part that has been zip tied. This gives you a clean starting point.

After you pull the zip tie tight, cut the end off with some wire cutters or scissors.

Then attach the mesh to your first chenille stem starting on the inner ring.

Make sure your tie is twisted tight before moving on.

Pulling all 3 pieces of deco mesh together, measure out about 10″ of the deco mesh then attach it to your next tie on the inner ring. These are the poofs/bubbles you will be creating for each section. You will continue in this manner all around the inner ring until you have placed approximately 10″ of the three colors of deco mesh in each section. Do not worry about separating and spreading out your poofs until you have finished placing all the deco mesh.

Measure out approximately 10″ of the deco mesh.

Attach that to your next tie on the inner ring creating your first poof/bubble.

Continue in this manner until you have gone all around the inner ring.

When you get to the last tie, you will be creating your last poof for the inner ring by overlapping it onto the original first tie.

Close off the inner ring by placing your last poof and overlapping it to the first tie you started with. Do not cut your deco mesh at this point.

STEP 3: ATTACHING YOUR DECO MESH (OUTER RING)

First, you need to bring your deco mesh up to the outer ring. You do this by bringing up the deco mesh that you ended with on the inner ring, without cutting, and attaching it to the tie directly above the first tie you started with on the inner ring. This will now be your starting point on the outer ring.

Bring your deco mesh up and before you create your first poof twist it onto the tie directly above the one you started with on the inner ring.

You can now start your poofs/bubbles in the outer ring exactly the same way you did on the inner ring.

The only difference between creating your poofs on the inner ring compared to creating them on the outer ring is that on the outer ring you have that extra tie in the center of each section. Otherwise, all measurements will be the same.

Make your poofs the same measurement as on the inner ring not forgetting to place them on the center ties of each section.

When you get all the way around you will overlap your last poof onto the first tie the way you did on the inner ring.

Once you have overlapped your last poof onto the beginning tie of the outer ring, you can cut your deco mesh. I typically leave about a 2-3″ tail when I cut. You will be zip tying this tail through to the back of the wreath form as shown in the pictures.

Leave about a 2-3″ tail when you cut your deco mesh.

Bring your deco mesh around to the back of the wreath form.

Zip tie your tail down to the back of the wreath form then trim your zip tie.

STEP 4: SEPARATE YOUR POOFS

Now that you are done placing all your deco mesh, you will need to separate your colors. Spread out the deco mesh into the three colors. I typically keep one color as the center color each time and alternate placement of the other two colors. For example, my first poof will have the white on the bottom, the tan in the center and the yellow on top. My next poof will then have the yellow on the bottom, the tan in the center and the white on top. This allows you to have your colors be evenly spread throughout your wreath.

Spread out your deco mesh to show all three colors.

Alternate two of the colors each time between being on top or on the bottom to get a nice even spread of colors.

Your wreath is now ready for ribbon and accents!
