STEP 1: MAKE YOUR WREATH FORM

For this example we'll be making a wreath base using the Single Layer Cruffle Method. The instructions for the wreath form can be found here:

DIY Work Wreath Form: Single Layer Cruffle

STEP 2: MAKE YOUR WREATH BASE

I will be using 2 Colors of 10″ poly deco mesh for this wreath. For detailed instructions on how to make your wreath base follow this link:

This is what your completed wreath base should look like.

STEP 3: ADD YOUR RIBBON

First, take each roll of your 1.5″ ribbon and cut the ribbon into twelve of each 13″ pieces. Then cut the ends of the ribbon into a dovetail by folding the ends in half and cutting at a diagonal. I typically start cutting from about an inch from the end. Starting from the fold, cut the diagonal down to the edges of the ribbon.

Cut both your 1.5″ ribbon at 13 inches. I prefer this measurement but you can make it anywhere from 12″-14″.

Cut your dovetail.

This is what a dovetail should look like.

Put one ribbon on top of the other forming an X. Place both ribbons together on every other tie. For this wreath, I am placing the ribbon on the white deco mesh ruffles. Pinch the ribbons in the middle and attach to the twist tie on top of the deco mesh.

Form an X with your ribbon.

Place your ribbon atop the white cruffle.

Twist your tie about an inch up then cut your tie with wire cutters.

Tuck your stem down so it is no longer visible.

Alternate your placing your ribbon on each white ruffle and cut all your ties down.

Here is your wreath with all your ribbon placed.

STEP 4: ATTACH YOUR ACCENT SIGN

For purposes of making this tutorial shorter, I will refer you to our tutorial on Attaching Accent Signs to Your Wreath to learn step by step on how to place your accent sign.

Before I attach the accent sign, I determine where I want the top of the wreath to be. I attach a wire that you can find at any craft store, to the top and twist it around the wreath form with mini bent nose pliers to secure it. If you don't have craft wire you can use a zip tie. You can now hang it up, which makes it easier to work on for these last steps.

Wrap your wire around the wreath form to secure it for hanging. If you can't find craft wire a zip tie works just as well.

After you have placed your zip tie adhesive mounts on your accent sign you can pull a chenille stem through each tab to be ready to attach to your wreath. I typically hold the sign up to the wreath first to determine where I want to place it. For this wreath I chose to put it on the left side to leave room for my bow.

Give the tie one twist after going all the way through.

Once you have determined where you would like to place it, use your ties to go in between the mesh and attach directly to the wreath form. Attach all ties in this manner until it is secure. You may need to readjust so I suggest not twisting your ties too much until you are sure you are happy with the placement. You will also have to readjust your ribbon and mesh because it will probably all be tucked under the sign after placement.

STEP 5: ADDING YOUR BOW

Visit our tutorial on how to make a Double Ribbon Bow Using the Bowdabra to learn how to make the bow shown on this wreath.

You will first place the bow against the wreath to determine where you will like it. Next you will take your ties and attach it directly to the wreath form.

You will need to adjust your deco mesh and ribbon to how you would like it after placing your accent sign and bow, before moving on to the next step.

STEP 6: ATTACH YOUR FLOWERS/ACCENTS

We are using flower accents for this wreath. You will need to trim the stem with wire cutters before you add them to your wreath.

Trim down your flowers leaving about a 2-3″ stem.

Cut all your stems before placing them on your wreath.

Place all of them on your wreath to determine where you want them to go before you hot glue them down. Once you hot glue them down, you can’t really change the placement without ruining your deco mesh.

Place your flowers in between your mesh so it stays in place.

Make sure you place them all down before you hot glue them to determine exactly where you want them to go.

After you have placed them, put the hot glue on them as far in as you can go so the glue doesn’t show.

STEP 7: FINISHING TOUCHES

Turn your wreath around and twist and cut any ties that are sticking out about 1″ long. Tuck your stems down.

You will have ties sticking out the back from your accent sign and bows.

Twist them and cut with wire cutters to leave about a 1″ stem.

Tuck your ties in so they are no longer visible.

Trim your ribbon as needed to leave the look you would like. Your wreath is now complete and ready to be hung!
